About Us

Founded in 1991 as Guidance Control Systems (GCS) in Leicester, UK, we've continuously pushed the boundaries of positioning technology.

Laser scanning breakthroughs
1995 – 2002
LS5 (1995), LS6 (1998), and LS7 (2000) for AGVs evolved into marine laser systems in 2001, followed by the 2nd-generation CyScan for offshore applications in 2002.
Radar, GPS & surveillance advances
2003–2006
RadaScan, developed with the University of Oxford in 2003, was soon followed by radar positioning systems. The company rebranded as Guidance Navigation Ltd in 2005 and won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade in 2006.
 Expansion & duplication
2007 – 2014
Following the acquisition of Chiltern Microwave in 2007, the company secured global EM-tagging contracts and expanded into France and Saudi Arabia. By 2014, it had launched Marine.Direct, developed sensors for rugged environments, and opened a service centre in Louisiana.
Global growth
2015–2017
In 2015, the company acquired the Artemis product line and opened Singapore PTE. It was featured in The Sunday Times Best Companies to Work For in 2016 and in the LSE’s “1000 Companies to Inspire Britain” in 2017, before being acquired by Wärtsilä in October 2017.
Intelligent vessels era
2018 – 2023
The company participated in the IntelliTug autonomous tug pilot in Singapore and conducted live prototype testing on its vessel Ahti, later launching the SPECS panoramic camera pod for 360° situational awareness.
Navigating new ownership
2023
The company became part of Wärtsilä’s Automation, Navigation & Control Systems (ANCS) portfolio.
Acquired by Solix
2025
Acquired by Solix to accelerate innovations in sensor technologies.
